Hello Lovelies,

It's a new day and we are are to update you on our project progress. I after going through the idea selection, there was the need to consider the right materials for the solution. In today's chapter we will be explaining our bill of materials. Stay tuned.

The shelling subsystem involves spikes rotating at very high speeds hence which will result in high stresses in the long run therefore steel is the most suitable material for the task because of its strength. In addition, steel’s hardness is an important property when it comes to cracking the pods, something that cannot be achieved with materials like wood or aluminum. However, making the whole subsystem using steal would increase the cost, therefore the holder of the spikes will be padded with wood planks.

The separation box should allow the crushed chuff to fall through hence the need for a wire mesh. Just like the whole system, the separation system should be robust and durable. Our community partner mentioned the importance of having less maintenance/ repairability frequency which demands strong materials that last. As a result, we decided to make its frame out of steel sheets as well.

The bicycle frame is already available from the previous design.

SEE YOU NEXT WEEK!
