FUN FACT: Did you know, that Nigeria produces 30% of Africa's groundnuts, followed by Senegal or Sudan which produce 8% respectively.

The process of shelling, otherwise also called decortication, makes use of various processes through the shelling process to ensure that the peanuts do not get damaged by means of shelling.

For most farmers, shelling also reduces the cost of transportation of their produce, as the kernels add to the weights of the groundnuts, while removing the kernel reduces the weight of the produce greatly, and therefore also reduces the cost.

Therefore, the mandate of this project is to utilize engineering skills from the Mechanical, Electrical and Computer Engineering departments to come up with a functional, user-oriented machine that limits the amount of human labour that is used in manual decorticators, is cost-effective, and is readily available for people in the local area.
